Firstly apologies to those whose names I haven’t remembered.
I’m over fifty and using that as my excuse!
Three riders my good self, Ev and Narinder, a relatively new rider to our club runs left Cheam Station for Carshalton in cold, damp, overcast conditions.
Before leaving Cheam Narinder had been on the mobile to arranged for two of his friends to join us at Carshalton for their first ride with the club.
We took the upper Sutton route above the station and dropped down into Carshalton right on time at 0930hrs just in time to catch up with Mike Curtis on his way through the park to the meeting spot.
We then as promised met with Janet and partner (Funny how I always remember the ladies names!) who were going to join our club ride for the day to see how they liked us.
With the slight drizzle now stopped the ride took the usual route to Putney along the Wandle River.
The planned left turn at Merton and the climb up The Downs (1:10) onto Wimbledon Common was changed to suit our guest riders.
We don’t like to frighten prospective members away on their first ride! 😉
After elevenses the democratic vote was to climb out of Putney via Paul Kelly’s route along Putney Park Lane, which brings us nicely onto the side of Putney Heath and with a little subway “Iggy Wiggy” onto Wimbledon Common.
It was good to see that the sails are back on the windmill as we passed and headed across then off the common. We then descend (the reverse of this morning’s initial plan) The Downs (1:10) which for me produced a 38mph descent before brakes were applied.
After negotiating Wimbledon Chase we took a route across Cannon Hill Common and through the back streets of Worcester Park back to Cheam.
Welcome to our new riders, hope you decide to join our club. Email your names and I promise to edit and put them in. 😀👍
