A tale of two rides: part one lead by Trevor and part two by Ev.
Ev, Trevor, Andrew Adams, Brian Harris, Billy, Mick Ayliffe and Bob Green met up at Cheam station, with Mick and Bob making their way to the tea stop at Henfold Lake.
The rest made their way on a lovely morning to Leatherhead, then Fetcham and Great Bookham before heading south to the Effingham lights on the A246 and then left up over White Hill and down White Downs. Trevor said good-bye, handed me the captain’s armband and made off to Dorking and the rest of us started phase two of the ride.
Crossing the A25 we turned left to Abinger Common and then straight up Leith Hill in a tight group. We dropped of the top and descended to Ockley, rode through to Capel and Newdigate before dropping down Henfold to a welcome cup of tea with a host of other Clarencourt riders, who, to be quite honest, looked a bit rough and disreputable, so we sat at a seperate table.
Refreshed we made our way to Pixham and up the A24 before taking on Little Switzerland. Andrew said farewell at the top, heading home, whilst Billy, Brian and I head off to Walton Heath and our separate ways home.
The weather was nice and sunny for 4/5 of the ride and it just started raining about five minutes from home: perfect!
Croydon to Croydon was 55.18 miles at 14.9 mph. Cheam to Cheam is about 10 miles less.
