After a hearty breakfast, the crew – Bill, Jigs, Andy, Trevor, Tracy, Neil, Malcolm, Jake, Sally and myself – dropped bags with Denis ‘Denbo’ Peacock for loading into his support car.
First photo opp was with Captain Mainwaring, as Thetford is the fictional location of Walmington-on-Sea, Dad’s Army. Then it was head north, north west for Hunstanton.
A challenging day of off road riding with some trails having deep soft sand patches.
Lunch was at Pickenham Pantry Cafe. Absolutely lovely food and volunteer staff.
The afternoon got warmer and the beautiful, undulating, unspoilt terrain went on until about three miles from Hunstanton when it finally showed signs of giving us a break from gravel, soft sand and bursts of humid air in the gusty headwind we’d had all day.
The beautiful countryside in this area was well worth it, we even saw two hares in one afternoon. I personally haven’t seen a hare in thirty years!
Before arriving in Hunstanton there was a unanimous vote for rehydration at The Mariner, with nice views of the sea.
Then the last mile or so was downhill to our overnight Airbnb where Denis was waiting patiently outside. After a wash and brush up it was off to the sea front and partake of delicious, local fish & chips while looking out over the sea.
