Saturday 31st May, off road Claygate Cricket Club

Four riders out today: Bill Kent, Mark (Sorry don’t know the surname?), ‘Digger’ Dave Clarke and myself leading. Lovely weather today 16°C at 08:00hrs and a nice temperature throughout the whole ride. Easy riding today with a run out through Ewell, along the Hogsmill River, over Horton Country Park and Epsom Common.

After crossing the A24 south of Malden Rushett we entered Prince’s Coverts forest land. A detour had to be made from our path due to an area being fenced off for logging, but we came out more or less where we wanted to be in the end.  We passed through a welcome leafy shade of Limekiln Wood, which is south of Chessington World of Adventures, and onto the corner of Arbrook Common. The usual short climb up to Claygate was next before heading through the residential streets of Claygate to the elevenses stop.

Elevenses was outdoors today due to the good weather and taken at leisurely pace. The route back was Claygate Common, over the A3, the diversion route past Stalag Barwell Farm and down to the A24 at Chessington South. After crossing the A24 there are some trails through to Horton Country Park west side. Once we’d got through the boundary of the park the crew followed me to the car park and then continued on to the start point at Cheam.
