Seven riders out today; Tracy, Lucinda, Trevor Kite, Bill Kent, Bill Martin, Adam, and myself leading. Our route: Horton, Epsom Common, Prince’s Coverts, Cobham, Downside and then finally the short sharp climb over Telegraph Hill. This led us onto Ockham Common, for the iggy wiggy shallow descent to the cafe stop.
The weather was warm, but overcast and I wasn’t the only one who wondered if we were in for a soaking on the way back (which fortunately didn’t happen). An unusual scenario at the elevenses stop today – no traffic noise due to the Highways Agency closing this section of the A3 for works. So mostly peace and quiet today whilst we ate.

My return route had us climb back to the top of the hill and slightly south to pick up a farm road back to Downside. We traversed Bookham Common, through busy Fetcham, around the back of Leatherhead Leisure Centre and through the back streets towards Ashtead. After crossing the railway we entered a leafy Ashtead Common and three or so miles later we were back in Horton. At this point to group continued on without me back to Cheam etc, and I headed for the Horton Country Park car park.
