Five riders left Cheam at 09.00hrs.
Paul White, Bill Martin, Chris Messett, Mick Curtis and prospective new member Phil Bull.
Our route took us out the back of Nonsuch Park and the gentle climbs up to Epsom Downs.
Once on the top we cut across the middle of the racecourse and headed for Langley Vale. Halfway up the Vale climb we crossed the road and descended through the residential area of Ashtead through The City of London Freeman’s School road and into Ashtead Park.
After negotiating the ‘Barrow crossing’ on the Epsom railway line we crossed onto Ashtead Common where Bill took us along some of his favourite gooy paths heading in the general direction of Horton Park.
After a route direction correction we cut through the West Park Hospital site to our elevenses stop.
At the Moat Cafe we met Barry Gregory and had pleasant social intercourse as is the way of the Clarencourt.
After elevenses we traced the Hogsmill back via Castle Hill and the Bonesgate Nature Reserve.
Along the Hogsmill Bill tried to take us into more mud and goo and some of the peasants revolted and stayed on the path whilst Phil followed Bill into all sorts of goo!
A pleasant if overcast morning but at least the temperature was up a little on the previous few days at 9C.
