Saturday 25th January, off road Garson’s Farm Cafe.

Four riders at the Nonsuch Park meeting point in bright, but chilly conditions. Today’s temperature hovered at 2°C as we set off. Our quartet today was Tracy Caudle, Trevor Kite, myself and Adam Domaingue expertly leading us. The route out, Horton Country Park, on to Epsom Common west side, over the A24 into Prince’s Coverts and under the A3 to Esher Common. The ride conditions were soft and water-logged, with Adam commenting that the area had had serious amounts of rain early Saturday morning.

We struggled in places with the boggy conditions and at one point had to stop on West End Common whilst repairs were made to Tracy’s rear mudguard with the help of zip ties. About a mile on after a rooty, knarly, muddy descent we were at the cafe.

The cafe wasn’t that busy so we got served quickly. A decent amount of space at this venue and it’s warm, a big attraction when for the last two Saturday’s we’ve been riding in sub-zero temperatures. (Leatherhead two weeks ago, -6°C)

Adam’s route back was alongside Hersham Golf Club, Thames Ditton, Esher Common, Arbrook Common, Claygate Common, Chessington South and back into Horton CP. More boggy, muddy stuff was encountered on the way back, at times like riding through molasses, but nevertheless an enjoyable ride route.
