Saturday 15th May, MTB Reigate Hill Cafe.

Nine riders met at Nonsuch Mansion at the bohemian time of 09.30hrs. Bill Martin, Dave Rapson, Tracy Caudle, Trevor Kite, Richard, Adam Domaingue, Paul White, Shean Slammon and Dave Clarke leading.

An overcast and already wet day from last night’s heavy rain we set off in the hopes of avoiding a soaking from the threatening skies. Our route took us out climbing steadily to Epsom Downs, Walton on the Hill, Mogador and through some uncharted Bluebell saturated territory next to the M25.

The weather had been threaten and we got a drenching just after Walton on the Hill where waterproofs were pulled on, and stayed on for the rest of the ride, mostly to stay warm in the damp cold conditions.  At Reigate Hill we got more drizzle whilst ordering food, but thankfully the rain held off whilst we were eating it.

The ride back had us descending half way down Gatton Bottom and using a bridleway ascent north under the M25 that comes out opposite Babylon Lane on the north side of the M25. The route after that was undulating through trails in Kingswood, Chipstead Valley and finally crossing the A217 back onto Burgh Heath, Nork Park and dropping finally back into Nonsuch Park.

I was parked as usually in Horton Park and alas got a good soaking riding back the last two miles to the car, fortunately a nice warm car and a change of clothes made the journey back much more comfortable.
