Ride report: Saturday 6th July MTB Stoke D’Abernon

Four riders met at Cheam Station for the ride: Mick Curtis, Chris Messett, Bob Green and myself leading.

It was good to see Bob Green who was joining us just for a short ride as he had a prior afternoon gig. Bob turned and headed back doing a loop of Horton Park and we parted company, the rest of us heading towards Chessington South.

The day was  warm and sunny with nil wind. The crowds were heading from Chessington South Station for Chessington World Of Adventures as we crossed into Barwell Farm Lane heading towards Claygate Common. We passed through the common, up and over the A3 for a second time and headed into Prince’s Coverts in the general direction of Oxshott. Pretty soon after that we were at the elevenses stop, the garden centre in Stoke D’Abernon. For once we were able to eat at the tables outdoors!

Our ride back took us back through Prince’s Coverts in a slightly different direction to bring us out at Telegraph Hill on the Leatherhead Road. This was crossed safely, despite the heavy traffic and we were soon back into the dappled sunshine of Ashtead Common. After this it was our usual gentle descent through Horton Country Park and back along the Hogsmill River to Ewell and Nonsuch Park.

22.5 Miles in around two hours forty-five minutes.
