Four riders at Cheam Station south side for the off this morning, Mick Curtis, Dave Elliott, Bill Martin and Myself leading. It was a bit of a slog today due to Heavy rain this week and so very muddy in places.
Our route took us over Nonsuch Park, Ewell and climbed up to Epsom Downs racecourse, where we crossed the racecourse heading up Langley Valley to Thirty Acre Barn and Stane Street. This then took us into the fields dropping steadily towards our bridge crossing point over the M25. After negotiating Leatherhead bypass we descended into the town and took river bridge by Thorncroft Manor and around the back of the Leisure Centre to our new elevenses stop.
This new elevenses stop at Clark’s Cafe is now the replacement for the closed cafe in Bridge Street. Clark’s Cafe is located in the parade of shops where the old bus station used to be. Postcode KT22 9AL. There is another cafe at the top of the High Street. I’ll likely check it out next time the ride is scheduled to stop in Leatherhead for elevenses.
After suitable refuelling we set off back through Leatherhead, through Lower Ashtead, crossed over the railway and entered Epsom Common heading north to Horton Country Park. Bill as usual found us some alternative boggy paths on Epsom Common with promises of, ‘It’s a good path and not usually too bad!’ It was boggy Bill! 😉 After Horton we ‘iggy wiggied’ our way along the Hogsmill River to Ewell and back across Nonsuch Park.
22 miles.
