Three riders left Cheam Station at 09.00hrs, Bill Martin, Mick Curtis and myself leading.
The ride took a gentle ascent over Nork towards Tattenham Corner. Mick took a detour before we reached the racecourse to a route a little flatter to the cafe where he would meet up with us again later.
The wind was howling over the racecourse as Bill and I headed for a route amongst the trees to something a little more sheltered to get us to Thirty Acre Barn. At Stane Street Bill notice a bridleway neither of us knew or could remember where it went and so we followed it through the sticky mud to its end. The end was just before the bridge over the M25 near Headley Court and so we turned right and followed another bridleway along the clockwise boundary of the M25 back to Ashtead.
We crossed Ashtead Common and arrived at the cafe around 11.10hrs. Mick arrived soon after having done some exploring of various trails on Ashtead Common.
After elevenses we had the wind behind us most of the way home and were able to briskly return to Cheam via Horton Park, the Hogsmill River and across the middle of Nonsuch Park.
