Friday 13th June, Rochester to Canterbury via Whitstable

Another hot day start with temperature at 17°C at 08:00hrs rising to 26°C by mid afternoon. We left the hotel at 09:00hrs with a short, sharp climb to access the bridge over the Medway.

Elevenses was at, ‘The Signal Box Cafe’, Hollingbourne.

Lunch was in Faversham town square where Bill dealt with a troublesome puncture that he’d been pumping and riding for about five miles.
Then on to Breezy Whitstable following the sea defence wall along the coast.

A stop for ice cream, drinks and a paddle.

The final eight miles to Canterbury via the, ‘Crab and winkle’ railway line sustrans path.
A very deceiving title as it only follows the trackbed for a mile before diving up a 200ft climb to avoid the closed tunnel. It made up for it with the views looking down on Canterbury.

During the evening we were treated to a spectacular thunderstorm with tons of lightening.

50 miles, 2700ft climbing.
