Left Cardiff at 11:30hrs after Adam Domaingue arrived by train from London. The riders, Adam Domaingue, Dave Rapson, Tracy Caudle, Trevor Kite, myself and Bill Martin leading.
In support in the ‘Van of Doom, Battle bus’, Denis Peacock.
Weather good, hot, 79°F and a wind from the east around 6mph,just enough to cool the riders a little bit.
Ride uneventful, but gloriously scenic and green. Big disappointment as after four years the Newport Transporter Bridge is still not operational, and therefore adds another three miles to the route.
A mix of off road country sections and tiny ‘B road’ sections with very little traffic.
Lunch at National Trust property, Tredegar House.
A stop made this afternoon in Caldicot around ten miles from Chepstow for lemonade, orange juice etc. at a local pub.
A few sharp, hard, short ascents after Caldicot, which caused some of us to slow down to avoid overheating on the final miles of unshaded roads.
Final arrival at Chepstow was 16:20hrs.
