The Gloucester to Bristol stage on the Kennet and Avon MTB ride is confirmed as on.
Dear chaps, Ev and I have done the over night stay in Gloucester investigating possible hotels with secure cycle storage facilities.
Our stay at the New Inn although very nice alas proved not suitable for bike storage as the it would be locking them to a post in the corner of the court yard in public view.
I can confirm that after much walking about and enquiries a suitable hotel has been found ironically right outside the railway station in Gloucester.
The Station Hotel has cellar space for around ten bikes and can take our booking on 15th June.
The hotel is on a slight incline so bike access to the cellar is via four steps at the rear of the building so an easy parking spot.
The cost for a room for the night here is £75, so about the same cost as the nights in the other hotels on route.
As this will be an extra day, it’s in June and more hotel bookings on the route need to be made ASAP can anyone who’s wishing to come on the ride confirm by email to me no later than MONDAY 13th APRIL. I will put all the bookings in place by the end of that week for those confirmed as riding.
Those confirmed so far:
Paul Kelly
Ev Quistorff
Paul White.
Thanks
Paul.
For those interested in the ride, the distances from the 2005 were Gloucester to Clifton 50 miles; Clifton to Devizes 42 miles; Devizes to Newbury 35 miles and Newbury to Reading 19 miles. An average of 36.5 per day.
A total that year of 146 miles at an average speed of 12.5 mph.
Ok, I’m in. I’ll email you sometime tomorrow to get more details.
