Guillestre, June 25th to July 2nd 2011
Guillestre is a very picturesque little town, set in a deep valley. The area is beautiful, surrounded by thickly forested mountains. The river Guil flows out of the wild Gorges de Guil past Guillestre and Mont-Dauphin, and into the Durance. In the center of town are large squares and shops with tall houses and narrow streets, wooden cranes are common in upper-floor windows. Since they’re not often in use, many spend their idle hours suspending pots of colourful flowers. There is a very large market here every Monday morning. This is the market town for the Queyras and people come in to it from all around. The Gite is divided into 2 apartments on the ground and first floor linked by an internal staircase. We also have use of the Garden.
Cycling
Guillestre is at the bottom of the Col D’izoard and the col de Vars. The pretty town of Briancon is about 25 miles away. Lake Serre Poncon is also nearby which has a circular cycling route around it. The trip includes all meals at the Gite including wine in the evening, route cards and bike transport if bagged from London. For more more information please contact Barry on 077620 17262.
