Thought it was a tad too windy for road bikes yesterday so went to Bike Beans on the mountain bike. Managed to stay dry & relatively mud free. Mick Curtis On a very windy Saturday morning with the prospect of rain, Chris and Duncan decided to do a short ride to Bike Beans before the rain started. Gale force side winds on Epsom Downs resulted in leaning the bike sideways in order to ride in a straight line. Stinging rain/drizzle duly arrived and the stay at Bike Beans was an extended one. Straight home afterwards. Chris Devereux
Sunday 7th February 2016
Riders: Andy and Trevor to Horton Country Park to pick up Bill.
Then on to Woking through lots of deep mud and water. Paul White was waiting in Woking and rode back with them along the Basingstoke Canal to Walton on Thames. The other three continued on the Wey Navigation and the Thames to West Molesey to Andrew Adams for coffee and a cake. Many thanks Andrew. After surveying his extensive renovations. The whole dwelling internally had been gutted by the builders and the only room completed was the bathroom, no kitchen and a limited amount of flooring to walk on. The ride then continued to Hampton Court and along the path to Kingston and back via the Hogsmill River. The section before the A3 was particularly muddy, slippery and leg sapping. Well done Bill for getting through. Long MTB ride of 50 miles plus. No rain and good weather! Trevor Hughes On what was a blustery windy day I set off from my parking spot by the River Thame at Walton and headed towards Weybridge and the Wey Navigation. My recent chest infection was still occasionally evident with the odd cough like a Fordson Tractor starting up, but it felt good to get some fresh air in anyway. Just after Byfleet I turned onto the entrance of the Basingstoke Canal and headed west towards Woking our lunch meeting spot. A pleasant steady ride with the odd sudden deceleration due to sudden gusts of wind was the norm for all of the ten miles into Woking. I arrived at the lunch stop early by about twenty minutes and so took a ride around the town centre researching the cycle paths for future rides. In the town centre I discovered these exhibits referring to Woking’s manufacturing history and to Woking and Byfleet’s literary history in the form of H.G Wells Martian from ‘The War of the Worlds.’ Trevor, Andy and Bill arrived at the Wetherspoons at 1158hrs and so the usual frantic dash was made to get the Wetherspoons Breakfast ordered before the midday cut off. We left the pub just after 1330hrs and retraced my morning route back along the canal and back out to the Thames now with the wind behind us. I left the trio at Walton on Thames, where I’d parked, to continue with another thirteen miles or so back through Hampton Court, Kingston and back along the Hogsmill River back to Cheam. Paul White. Tuesday 9th February 2016 Andy and Trevor to Cuckfield Golf Coarse with OHG. 68 miles
