Well, at one time there was little traffic on Sunday mornings. There were no shops open, no out of town shopping centres with their attendant traffic lights to break up a ride and no M25. The world was a quieter place and the cyclist had the choice of what road to use.
I go for a ride, weather permitting, every Christmas Day because it is the only day of the year that resembles how Sunday’s used to be. I left Croydon at 08:30 on the fixed wheel riding 72” and went straight down the A23 to Handcross and back; bringing back memories of past rides and time trials. Minimal traffic and mild weather made it a very pleasant ride down memory lane this year. 50 miles in 2h 55mins: too short really.
2h 55mins, that must have included a cafe stop! Happy New Year Ev!
